Material Movement

You use the Material movement data grid to manage the material movement rules between your locations. The Material movement data grid is in the Setup Schedule > Material Flow > Movement tab.

Notes:

  • Material movement rules are applied in the order in which they are listed in the Material movement data grid; rules higher in the grid are applied before rules lower in the grid.
  • Before you can define material movement rules, you must set up the locations in the Setup Schedule > Locations tab.

You can define the parameters for material movement rules in the Material movement data grid, or you can use the spreadsheet view. To access the spreadsheet view, select Spreadsheet > Enable Spreadsheet Views, and then select the Material Movement spreadsheet. When the Material Movement spreadsheet is enabled, it replaces the Material movement data grid in the Movement tab.

The movement of material permitted between locations is described in the following table.

Columns in the Material Movement Data Grid

Column Description
Active
  • Selected: The material movement rate rule is applied to the locations to which it is assigned.
  • Cleared: The material movement rule is not applied to the locations to which it is assigned.
  • Tip: When you clear the Active check box, you make the material movement rule ineffective without deleting the rule.

Sources

The locations from which material is removed.

Tip: You can use wildcards to specify more than one source location. To specify the locations using the Wildcard Expression Builder, click the Ellipsis button.

Material Classes

The material classes that are removed from the Sources locations and delivered to the Destination location.

By default, all material classes are selected.

Tip: You can use wildcards to specify more than one material class. To specify the material classes using the Wildcard Expression Builder, click the Ellipsis button.

Destination The location at which material is deposited.
Ratio/Priority

When material is moved to more than one stockpile, and you are not using targets, you can use a ratio to define the comparative amount of material that goes to each stockpile destination.

Ratios are an alternative to using targets to control the amount of material moved to the stockpiles.

When material is moved to more than one fill location, you can use a priority to determine which fill location is filled to the maximum capacity before any material is delivered to the next fill location. The lower the number, the higher the priority.

Tip: You can also use the Ratio/Priority column to create a rule that stops sending material to a location. If you use a value of 0 in the Rate/Priority column, the material stops being sent to the destination location. To specify a material movement that occurs between two dates or events, you can add one row to the data grid to start the material movement, and another row, with a value of 0 for the Ratio/Priority, to stop the material movement.

CautionCaution: If you use a Ratio/Priority of 0 to stop movement of a material, and also define a movement rule for a different material between the same source and destination on the same date or event and using the same haulage route, you must make sure the rule to stop the first material movement is before the rule to start the second material movement in the Material movement data grid. If you define the rule for the movement of the second material before the rule to stop the movement of the first material, the haulage route will not be associated with the movement of the second material.

Date/event

The date on which the material movement rule is applied to the locations.

You can use a calendar date or an event. The date or event plus the Delay determines the actual start date.

You use the Calendar button to select a date from a calendar. You use the Ellipsis button to select an event using the Event Builder.

Delay

The delay, after the Date/event, before the material movement rule is applied to the locations.

The default delay is 0. The delay can be any positive number.

Note: Part days are expressed as decimals, not in HH:MM:SS format.

Usually, delays are used when the Date/event is an event, and the actual date that the event occurs is not known until the schedule is run.

Route

The name of the haulage routes between the Sources and Destination locations.

The route is defined in the Haulage tab.

Tip: You can use wildcards to specify more than one haulage route. To specify the haulage routes using the Wildcard Expression Builder, click the Ellipsis button.

Comments

The comments that you want to record for the material movement rule.
